Spheres of Intervention
Mentors provide their holistic support system across four spheres – Personal, Familial, Social, and Educational. This approach is based on the understanding that there are interactive relationships between members of society and various experiential spheres.
Activities improve the children’s resilience and their ability to deal with life’s various personal challenges, while cultivating their self-confidence and an awareness of their strengths. Children are taught to recognize their strengths and use them to face their individual challenges.
Mentors use a multipronged approach that includes the children, their parents, and their entire families. Mentors dedicate a significant portion of their time to meetings and communication with parents – providing assistance in helping them understand their rights and benefits, offering parental guidance courses on relevant topics, and providing personal advice in the individual homes. The presence of the Mentor within the home and in the child’s natural environment creates opportunities for interaction and a deeper relationship with family. The close ties with the parents enable the Mentor to get a more accurate understanding of the needs of the family, which enables them to develop appropriate responses.
Mentors conduct weekly group meetings and/or activities with the 16 children under their care. The groups represent a social microcosm through which the children can experience and develop their social skills. The Mentors can tailor create different situations for the individual children so that they can grow. Additionally, the group settings serve as a platform for conveying educational and moral content—such as preventing and dealing with violence, cyberbullying, social ostracism, and shunning; acting for the public and communal good; conflict resolution; and working as a group—while developing critical thinking and independent opinions.
The Mentor strengthens the educational functioning and achievements of the child and ensures that the child receives the services that will enable the child to meet the academic goals and aims established. The Mentor assists the child in fully realizing their educational potential by strengthening their motivation to study and working on their educational functioning and capabilities. The Mentor helps the child maintain consistent school attendance, studying diligence, class participation, correct conduct in class, etc.
