Parents Group in Youth Futures
Youth Futures is grounded in the understanding that meaningful and sustainable change requires a multi-systemic approach involving children, parents, and the entire family. Accordingly, and as needed, significant efforts and resources are dedicated to parental guidance and support.
At the beginning of each year, program teams conduct a needs assessment among parents to identify the topics most relevant to them that year. Based on this assessment, tailored workshops are offered throughout the year to enrich parents’ toolkits and support them in their parenting role.
Family-centered work is coordinated by the locality’s Family and Community Coordinator, who works with Mentors and families in the program. The Coordinator is responsible for providing information on rights and support services, serving as a liaison with service providers, coordinating services with parents, developing and implementing community projects, facilitating parent groups, and conducting individual consultation sessions.
Parental work focuses on three intervention levels:
- Empowering parents within the community: Providing information, assistance, and accompaniment related to rights realization, available community services, and bureaucratic processes.
- Empowering parents as a group: Facilitating parent groups that address the unique needs of each locality, strengthen parenting skills, and empower the family unit.
- Empowering parents as individuals: Addressing individual parental and family needs that arise during the accompaniment process.
